Wedding Coordinator in Chattanooga: What to Know Before You Book

Chattanooga is one of the most popular wedding destinations in the Southeast right now — and I get inquiries from Chattanooga-area couples almost every week. After coordinating weddings on both sides of the Georgia-Tennessee state line for years, I have a lot of thoughts on what makes coordination here different, what couples often underestimate, and why having a coordinator is especially useful in this market.

I am Michelle, a day-of wedding coordinator based in Talking Rock, GA. Chattanooga is well within my service area, and it is one of my favorite cities to work in.

Why Chattanooga couples hire a coordinator

The Chattanooga wedding market has grown fast. There are more venues, more vendors, and more moving parts than there were five years ago. That growth is great for couples — more options, more styles, more price points — but it also means your wedding day has more complexity to manage.

Here is what I see come up most often with Chattanooga weddings:

  • Venues on both sides of the state line. Some of the most popular “Chattanooga area” venues are technically in Georgia — Trenton, Rossville, Rising Fawn. This affects your marriage license, vendor contracts, and insurance. A coordinator who knows the area knows which side of the line you are on and plans accordingly.
  • Vendors from two states. Your photographer might be from Chattanooga, your florist from North Georgia, your caterer local to the venue. Coordinating across state lines is normal here — but it requires someone keeping everyone aligned.
  • Downtown logistics. Chattanooga’s downtown venues are beautiful, but parking, traffic, and load-in windows are real considerations. Vendors need specific directions and timing instructions.
  • The venue coordinator gap. Most Chattanooga venues have on-site staff who manage their space. What they do not do is manage your timeline, cue your wedding party, or be your personal point of contact. That gap is exactly what I fill.

What I do for Chattanooga weddings specifically

Everything I do for North Georgia couples, I do for Chattanooga couples — with a few additions:

  • State line clarity. I confirm early whether your venue is in Tennessee or Georgia, and make sure your marriage license, vendor contracts, and any permits reflect the right state.
  • Vendor alignment across two markets. I introduce myself to every vendor on your list — whether they are Chattanooga-based or coming in from North Georgia — and become the single point of contact so nothing falls through the cracks.
  • Downtown venue logistics. Load-in windows, parking for vendors, elevator access, noise ordinances — I confirm these details in advance so there are no surprises on the day.
  • Rain plan for Tennessee weather. Chattanooga weather can shift quickly, especially for outdoor venues on Lookout Mountain or along the river. We establish your backup plan well before the wedding day.

The marriage license reminder

I mention this because it trips up more couples than you would think. If your ceremony is in Tennessee, you need a Tennessee marriage license. If it is in Georgia (even if the venue markets itself as “Chattanooga area”), you need a Georgia license.

For Tennessee: apply at the Hamilton County Clerk’s office, both partners in person, valid photo ID. No waiting period. Fee is $86 as of 2025 ($61 with a state-certified premarital counseling course). License valid for 30 days.

For Georgia: apply at the probate court in the county where the ceremony takes place. No waiting period, no residency requirement.

Confirm which state your venue is in before you apply. A few venues surprise couples on this one.

Venues I have worked at in the Chattanooga area

I have coordinated at venues throughout the area — downtown Chattanooga, Lookout Mountain, the North Shore, and across the Georgia state line. Styles range from industrial-chic downtown spaces to sprawling barn estates to waterfront properties. Each comes with its own logistics, and knowing the venue in advance makes a real difference on the wedding day.

If you are weighing venue options and want a second opinion on logistics, that is exactly the kind of thing I am happy to talk through before you even book with me.

Who this is for

Most of my Chattanooga couples fall into one of these situations:

  • You live in North Georgia and are getting married in Chattanooga — or vice versa — and want someone who knows both sides of the state line
  • You have planned your wedding yourself and want a professional managing the execution so you can actually be present on the day
  • Your venue has an on-site coordinator, but you realize they are managing the venue — not managing your wedding
  • You are planning from out of town and want a local professional who knows the area, the vendors, and the venues

What it costs

My coordination packages start at $2,000 and include unlimited communication from the day you book, a full detail review a few months out, timeline creation, vendor coordination, rehearsal direction, and full wedding day management. I take one wedding per weekend — your day gets my full attention.

For context, day-of coordination in Georgia and Tennessee typically runs $1,200–$3,500. Full-service planning runs significantly more. Coordination is the option for couples who want to plan their own wedding but want a professional making sure it all comes together.
